Residents of Champaign have likely started to notice the dozens of automatic license plate readers (ALPRs) now installed at various locations around the City.  In a site interview last month, a Flock Safety employee said that they were nearly finished installing the 46 ALPRs approved by the Champaign City Council in December.

The vehicle tracking system, which will hold at least 30 days of image and location data on every single vehicle driving through the City of Champaign, had not yet been configured to log data as of mid-May, but should be active very soon.

Flock Safety has a “Transparency Portal” for Champaign’s ALPRs, though it contains very little information beyond some boilerplate language about their ALPR products:
