As reported last night, the Champaign County Clerk’s website went down shortly after the polls closed, which meant that residents could not view the April 6th election results.  County Clerk Aaron Ammons began posting large batches of screen shots of text files to his Facebook page during the outage so that residents could leaf through the results. However, the documents were difficult to read and not all voters have Facebook accounts or knew to check on Facebook for election results.

The County Clerk’s website is operational as of this morning, but Ammons and his staff still do not know why the site crashed.  Chief Deputy Clerk Angela Patton issued a statement to Check CU just after 11am today indicating that they are working with the Statewide Terrorism and Information Center to determine if there was any foul play.

Patton’s full statement:

“Thanks for reaching out, at this time we don’t have a lot of information. We are working with our web team and the Statewide Terrorism and Information Center to make sure there was no outside interference. We will be releasing a statement today about getting information and conducting an audit to find out what exactly happened. The good news right now is it [sic] that the results are up on the website https://www.champaigncountyclerk.com/elections/i-want-run-office/historical-election-data
