Urbana City Council member Dennis Roberts released a statement on October 29th indicating that he will not seek a fifth term on the Council.
Dennis Robert’s statement, posted on Facebook:
“Dear HEUNA Friends,
Having served 16 years on the City Council, I have considered it a good run and perhaps time to make room for other individuals who want to serve the community wisely to represent Ward 5. It is a large Ward, which includes the downtown business district, the historic East Urbana neighborhood (HEUNA), east on Washington Street to Aspen Court and the Lierman Neighborhood Community Garden, and north along Cunningham Avenue all the way to Airport Road.
Serving on Council requires a commitment to be ready to put in the time on Monday nights to address the mundane as well as urgent issues which come before Council in a balanced and mindful way.
I have certainly enjoyed representing Ward 5 and I intend to remain active in several projects that I am still committed to, but I think the time has come to let others have the experience and personal growth that being on City Council offers.
